Green Roof House
Wallingford, Seattle, WA
Winter 2011

A growing family wants to stay in this house, so they look to go up. To preserve the neighbors' view and natural light, they want to expand all up front. We design an efficient, fitting floor plan to minimize the addition footprint, which results in the opportunity to spread an ample green roof space over the back half of the existing house, where the neighbors will gaze day in and day out.

Features
- Addition on half of existing footprint
- Integrated Home Performance testing for envelope upgrades
- Large green roof and many minor green roofs drain to rainwater catchment
- Rain gardens and planters and green wall for on-site storm water management
- Daylighting water to gardens and catchment show off rainwater
- Extensive use of natural light to south side
- Self-contained solar preheat for domestic hot water
- Photovoltaic solar panels
- Right-sized heating system
